The Shortest Day (21DEC2021)

Buffalo’s Theater District on December 21, 2021.

The New Year will be here soon. I will be 40 shortly thereafter. For me, it will mark the beginning of the next stage of my career.

I have over 10-years of experience as a city planner and over 10-years of experience in the U.S. Coast Guard. I have served in six units, including short-term active duty assignments in Washington, D.C. and Anchorage, Alaska. I have been to 48 states and I have lived in seven. The more that I have learned, experienced, and travelled, the more I have realized how little I know.

During the early stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I decided it was time to make a move, to continue to develop myself intellectually and professionally. I returned to school, earning my third graduate degree (M.S. Environmental Sciences, 2021) and my first graduate certificate (Water Management and Transformation, 2021). What you see, Matt Bowling Planning, is the culmination of the my work experience, my life experience, and my education.

I have worked in both the private and public sector, and at multiple levels of government. We are in the Era of Climate Change, I am on mission to make community planning a better process for applicants, approving bodies, and, most importantly, the general public and the natural environment, so that we - collectively - can work towards implementable solutions to address the localized impacts felt by this global challenge.

I look forward to working with you.

Best,

MB
